I was looking forward to this race all year, but then nearly backed out because I did not get into shape like I wanted to. Yep, I was a really heavy participant, but I plugged away and made it through. I was pretty disappointed in the obstacles overall. One, I think was a piece of wire I did not even have to duck under and nothing more. The yellow nylon ropes were brutal on hands. I was not in good enough shape to actually complete those ones, but some other type of rope would have made it better for sure. There was no water at all on the course, which I expected there to be. Would have been more fun I think. I thought there would be more than a single fire pit as well. I am certainly glad I did it. Yes, you can be pretty out of shape, and still challenge yourself to get it done. There were much smaller people struggling, so I didn’t feel quite so alone haha. I had a great time with friends, laughed a lot, but I think I might choose another race next year.

I’ve done this 3 years in a row and it has gotten worse each year. There was no variety in obstacles. The bulk of them you were climbing over a wall of some sort – so lame! Then to add madness to the mix, they’ve really cheeped out on everything!

The ropes weren’t cloth this year, they were plastic… OKAY SERIOUSLY? Yes seriously! Muddy hands and plastic doesn’t mix and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out. I somehow managed to make it to the top when my hands got sweaty and I plummeted approximately 12-14 feet (guesstimate) off one of the walls. I suffered sever rope burns on all my fingers, had the wind knocked out of me, my belly is full of scratches and burns as well as my knees, and was in the hospital with a sprained ankle. You don’t use tarp rope for climbing people… it’s not meant for climbing!!! How come you use cloth rope both years with exception to this year? Perhaps cutting costs will cost you a lot more in the end because I don’t have any intention on returning to this race.

Not only did they cut costs on the ropes, they cut costs on the time chips as well. This was tacky. I was training for 6 months for this race in the hopes that I could beat my personal best. When I showed up – no chips WTH? You’ve disappointed a lot of regulars.

Normally the race is smooth and the lines are quick moving but this year it was quite the opposite. Everyone was complaining about the line ups (took me 45 minutes in 1 line to collect my belongings). Would have been faster to leave my crap in the car and take the shuttle back and forth.

Aside from that – everyone I spoke with all felt like the race was a lot shorter. I have no way of measuring the distance but it felt shorter than the two years prior.

Most of the volunteers were okay – however one of them not paying attention to his surroundings cut in front of my husband to place another log on the fire and by doing so caused him to collapse to the ground just missing inches from falling into the flames. MORONS!!!

I have always been a cheerleader for this race, but this year I have nothing to cheer about.

Stop cutting costs or else you’ll find yourself with no dashers. The barbed wire was a joke, I walked under it without ducking, seriously guys! Sadness!

Let’s just call 2014 the year of the cut back. There are no timing chips any more, so you don’t know your time, or your ranking, like they used to do. There wasn’t even a clock at the start or finish line. The hearsay there was that people were told that they gave up timing chips to put money into the obstacles. The obstacles are the worst they’ve had in four years. Just different versions of ropes attached to wood. No water slides or anything remotely memorable until the last 2 obstacles, which remained the same from previous years.

I’ll throw one quick positive in here- and that is that they’ve done away with the monster hill at the beginning and given us a chance to do some actual running. Having said that, I’ve run this every year they’ve had it in Ontario. Will not run again.

I was very excited to do this race that everyone was talking about. While I had a lot of fun, I saw so many injuries that I really need to question if its the obstacles that aren’t safe or just runners not trained for this type of race. The post race food and party was fun!

Warrior dash is a great OCR. The best party, well organized, and not too expensive. We had a ton of fun this year. We are already registered for next year.

This was my first warrior dash race. Honestly, I thought it was over rated. The obstacles were sub par, I didn’t care for the post race food, the medal was alright and the organization was not the best-especially the baggage check in.

I have run many races in Toronto and the GTA, and this one fell short for me. Also, many of the obstacle were not safe (I’m not a wimp-I just didn’t want to risk injury due to races I had coming up soon after) and thus my friend and I skipped a couple of the obstacles.

Although it was a different experience, I would not do this race again.

I ran Saturday at 2 PM, The excitement was just not in the voice of the race announcer, the race itself was well put together, with lots of obstacles through mud and water, but the photographers were no where to be seen.I rate this race a 6.5 on 10…

What happened to WD? Ran and loved this event last year at the same venue but this year the organization was a MESS! I enjoyed the course itself BUT the check in/bag check was poorly done, the obstacles were poorly made (which led to numerous injuries!!!!) And what in the hell was with the woman MC’ing on Saturday morning?!!?!?! She had NO CLUE what she was doing, was the complete OPPOSITE of motivating/pumping up the crowd and GOT THE NAME OF THE RACE WRONG!!!!!! It was pathetic. I honestly wondered if WD subcontracted out this race this year as the quality was sooooo bad compared to past events. :(

Likely will not recommend/race this event again now.

Well, I have very mixed reviews about this race. I’m glad to see that people have enjoyed it in the past, but I suspect the problem with races like this is that as the years go on, the quality goes down, which sadly means the enjoyment for the participant goes with it.
I agree this race is a great value. For $40, you get a nice race shirt (not technical), a warrior helmet, and free beer. I did not get a lick of free food and I think there was maybe one band that played in the morning on the Saturday (I mention this because they mention it in their advertising). I also did not receive a finisher medal (more about this to come). It’s also a fun day to spend with friends.
My first concern about this race is that on the website, they are unclear about whether you can bring food/drink on the site. There is a statement that you can’t bring food or drink but it’s unclear whether this is on the course or the site in general. Our heat was at noon and we had to wait to run. My partner wanted some water while waiting and had to go in search of it. What he found was that food and drinks were only available in a certain area of the premise. This meant that he had to get his ID checked and then go into that area for a bottle of water. This also meant that if I was not with him, he would have to leave his bag in a fenced off/unsecure area since you are not able to take bags in the area. You would think given the physical nature of this event (which allows both adults and youth) that water would be readily available through the entire premise (e.g., at the race beginning) given they have asked that you not bring water with you. Any good runner knows that hydration starts before you start running, not on the course. So this is first X against this event.
The course was challenging and fun. I recommend not doing this event without a variety of people with you running as a team. This is a chipped event, but it’s not a place to look for your PB. The purpose of the chip should be to given you a quantitative measure of your experience and that’s it. My concern with the overall course is the general disregard for people’s safety. In speaking with people at the event who had done it in previous years, they informed me this year was more challenging and risky than past years – that’s fine. However, given that many people with a variety of physical abilities are doing these event now (regardless of the request by the organizers to consider your physical ability before signing up – FYI – I’m not a ‘Body Break’ model, but I was training for a 1/2 marathon), you would think they would try to at least make it safe – it really isn’t going to ruin the fun for everyone! I ended up being taken off the course early because of injury after falling off an obstacle – which I heard was closed shortly after myself and numerous other people were injured on it (including a nasty tibia/fibia break for a young athletic looking person). Part of the reason for the break was because there was no safety measures about falling off or safely disengaging from the obstacle (e.g., a gym mat at the bottom). I repeat, this is not going to change the challenge of the race, just make it safer for everyone. Even the military provides safety measures for soldiers during training obstacles because they realize a broken soldier isn’t going to be much use on the frontline. Sadly, I also didn’t get a finisher medal. I understand that I didn’t finish the course, but there should be some sort of compensation for people who get taken off with an injury. I joked with the people at the medical tent that we should get a ‘The Warrior Dash broke me’ medal since we technically didn’t finish but since it was advertised as being part of the cost of race, we should get a medal. This is the second X against the race event.
The merchandise at the event was MORE than reasonably priced. I got a nice training jacket for $30. Compared to the price gouging that happens at concerts ($80 for a t-shirt?!!?), this was an awesome benefit. Sadly, the food being sold at a price was a bit of a bummer. As I said previously, they advertised a free post-race snack that if available was not clearly advertised to participants – and again, given the unclear instructions regarding food/drink being allowed on the premise – this is another X against the event.
So if you have read this far, my advice to you is if you are interested in doing an obstacle event, I would look into the other events that are available. Unless Red Frog productions make efforts to increase the safety at this event, I have a hard time recommending this event to other people or considering whether I would do this event next year.

This race is a favourite of mine, not only because it’s my first, but because it’s a benchmark for how these events should be run. The vibe is always great and the obstacles are challenging and fun. I, myself, like the hills and with the amount of participants in each wave, I think they’re important for spreading people out. I like that this race is appropriate for those of all fitness levels and that the food, big screens and the brand in general presents itself well. I’m especially impressed with the organization prior to the race. I had to call into Red Frog several times to transfer purchases and they were so patient and helpful with me. I look forward to you working out the kinks with the race times and I would love closer parking to forgo the shuttle, but hey, all in all, Warrior Dash is something I look forward to year after year.

Warrior Dash was fun and exciting but the hills were killer. It was exhausting. I ran the Spartan Sprint faster and it was an extra 2km and the obstacles were harder. I was disappointed that many of the obstacles we anticipated were not included in the course, but it was still fun overall. +1 banana for free beer!

This was tonnes of fun! I did a mud run once and it was boring compared to the Warrior Dash, which is basically a mud run with a twist, and a big party as well. I dragged a friend kicking and screaming and she is kicking herself for being such a dufus, we’ll do this again for sure.

Good turnout, well organized, they did have a mix up with the hotel reservations. And I highly recommend taking some extra water with you on hot days as the first water stop is quite a ways up the hill. they do have the best medals of any event I have been to yet and it was great to be able to leave our shoes behind at the end of the event going to a good cause….definitely a group event! And the mud and fire were a nice touch!

This was my first race of this kind. It was a whole lot of fun! I am 47 and my kids came to watch. They are going to go in it next year with me. Very well organized. They put alot of people thru the start line in a very well organized way. Congrats on all other competitors. See you next year if not at ToughMudder in Aug.

Very well organized. Most of the volunteers were helpful and friendly (with exception of 1 bad egg). My only issue was that the images were not updated on the website regarding what obstacles were going to be at this years dash. The race was fun, energizing, the band was awesome, and I will definitely be returning next year.

I did this race with my husband and a friend of ours. This was our first mud race ever. We were very impressed with how well organized everything was. The additional merchandise like T-Shirts etc were well priced. The race it self was challenging but not so hard that the average athlete couldn’t do.
