Well let’s get this race review started shall we? 5 of these myself under the belt (1996 – 2004), of course overall it’s easily one of the best running experiences on the planet, all things considered and if you can get fast enough to qualify, it’s worth it. Logistically one of the most challenging races to coordinate and maybe 15,000 is a more reasonable race cap, but BIG business has changed many of these races at the expense of a better experience. Crowded Expo….lineups everywhere, maybe a little crowded on the course….but at least the tech shirts improved over those cotton versions we got! Boston has retained the charm and uniqueness of the history behind the event while slowly modernizing their race to reflect the needs of today’s marketplace, but I for one still have an issue with so many charity spots, can they at least make people show some pre-race fitness first?

Yes, I would consider attending this race/event next year.
I think the BAA made a mistake. If the weather is hot for a race it is called bad luck. By giving deferments to this years group it makes it that harder for others to get in the race next year. This was a sissy move by the BAA
An amazing race. Super well organised and coordinated. Do it for the incredible experience. But be prepared for a tough course. The downhills will kill your quads, and the uphills are everywhere. But the crowd support is phenomenal. Volunteers are amazingly supportive. The expo is awesome. Great technical shirts with the Boston marathon logo, great medals, and photos sent to you the day after the race!

Awesome race. The fans on race day are unbelievable and the locals are so kinda and supportive. Bad luck this year with the weather, but I would do it again in a heart beat.

Amazing experience despite the heat! The organizers were very well prepared for the conditions. I can’t say enough about the generosity of the fans along the route that were there with hoses, water, candy, drinks, and especially the ice! They never stopped supporting runners all the way despite the heat. Hats off to everyone involved for keeping everyone as safe as possible. The course was beautiful. I hope I get the chance to do it again someday!

Very emotional. What a great race despite the heat. The spectators and volunteers showed amazing support. I hope to come back and do it all over again.

I qualified for Boston 2012 at the Boston Marathon in 2011 with a time of 3:51.
The conditions and organization were excellent. Weather conditions were perfect. My only complaints were that there weren’t enough port-a-potties last year (this was rectified in 2012) and not enough water stations in the last 5k (also corrected in 2012).
The volunteers and spectators are just amazing, this is such a difficult course and the support you receive makes all the difference.
They say that running the Boston Marathon is addictive and I can definitely see why.
