Marathon runners like to chant a mantra while training for the big day: It's not crossing the finish line that matters, but getting to the start of the race. The point being, it's better to achieve the level of fitness that comes from preparing for a marathon than it is to be able to complete the 42.195 kilometres on race day.

Yet, according to the province's new fitness bill, marathon runners won't be deemed eligible for the $500 tax credit, unless they pay membership fees somewhere, either to a gym or a running club.

Online Registration is now open for all Canada Running Series '09 events, including Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, at www.canadarunningseries.com . Registration for '09 includes the popular COMBO PACKS, that offer runners major savings and the chance to build their own personal "pack" of major, "goal" races for next year, available only until February 28th. The Series is "a selection of Canada's best runs" that provide international-class running "experiences" in 5 events in Toronto, 2 in Vancouver and one in Montreal.

International Southland Fires and Resulting Poor Air Quality Posed Safety Concerns

Pasadena, Calif. (Nov 16, 2008) - For the health and safety of all participants, race organizer Pasadena Forward has announced it will cancel the Kaiser Permanente Pasadena Marathon scheduled to run today, Sunday, November 16, as a result of the significant wildfires in the Los Angeles area, the many evacuations, and the resulting unsafe air quality caused by the fires.
