The fall marathon is a competitive business as marathons across North America and around the world try to attract runners. Some will advertise their flat and fast course which appeals to first time marathoners as well as those trying to set personal best. The Royal Victoria Marathon in Victoria, British Columbia is held each year on the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. For those runners looking for a beautfiul course in a beautiful city I highly recommned putting the Royal Victoria Marathon weekend on your must do marathons.
Note: Submitted by David Jackson. David recently moved from St. Catherines, Ontario to Vancouver Island to run more and improve his performances - you may recognize his name from many races here in Ontario, including a stellar 2:28 at the 2003 Scotia Bank Waterfront Marathon. David had some injuries flare up at the 2004 Victoria Marathon and ended up dropping out at 30km.

TORONTO. 16 October 2004.Giitah Macharia wins BELAIRdirect.com ZooRun 10K to take CRS2004 crown All of the 2004 season was on the line for Giitah Macharia at the second annual BELAIRdirect.com ZooRun10k, and the Congolese runner from St. Catherines came through in fine style. To win the 2004 Canada Running Series title (and $2,500 in cash), he had to win, and did so convincingly in 30:15, ahead of 4 Algerians and Curtis Archibald from Halifax, Nova Scotia. The victory, on the scenic but rolling and winding course inside the Toronto Zoo, gave Macharia the crown with 144 points to Danny Kassap's 138. A second-place finish would have left him 2 points adrift of Kassap. Archibald was part of a contingent of 17 runners from Team Nova Scotia, who used the event as their Run Nova Scotia season finale. Here's a little race summary:Race day was nice-- not too hot but it was quite windy and got worse as the race went on. I had spoken with Luke Humphries before the race (Hanson's guy) and one of their runners was going through in 1:08 for the half (Eric Hartmark) which was perfect. There was a pack of 5 of us including meself, Matt Levassieur, Hartmark, Humphries and f-ing Raymer! We cruised through the half bang on in around 1:08:10, and I felt solid at this point. Once the rabbit dropped out, Humphries and I started trading leads and we quickly shed the rest of the pack (all DNFs I think). Note: By Matt McInnis. Matt trains with the U of T Track Club and has now run both of his marathons under 2:20, the first in Ottawa this past spring, where he was top Canadian. He is a full-time resident in Medical School....

I'll start off by fore-warning everyone, this is a LONG and extensivereport, with much commentary and analysis (personal opinion) throughout, so to skip to the race day info move further along.... My first-ever trip to Chicago started off poorly, a late start on Thursday and a speeding ticket on Highway #6 in Guelph, so I wasn't exactly in the best frme of mind heading into the weekend of what could be the biggest (U.S.A.) and fastest-ever marathon (world-wide) all on one day.
