Tj: The BIG day has finally arrived – race day!! After 8 months of training and fundraising, 101-5 SILK FM’s Team Diabetes members hit the pavement first thing this morning for the Reykjavik Marathon. Our group of over 30 runners/walkers were joined at the start line by team members from all over Canada and across the globe.

Andy: For a quick moment, I thought we were in Vancouver. The weather didn’t look promising, rain showers for most of the morning. But as the gun sounded to start the event, our team put the weather aside, and chose to focus on the thrill of the moment. Then, as if we had made a deal with a ‘higher force’, the rain abated and we were treated with a partly sunny/cloudy sky.

Tj: What an experience! 15-hundred runners/walkers bounding off the start line simultaneously. The locals were incredible as they clapped and cheered on all the participants, giving extra gusto to the Team Diabetes runners as they passed by. One of my favourite moments, was ‘high fiving’ the young Reykjavik children who had lined the route to cheer us on.

Andy: Not to mention patting our fellow team members on the back as we saw them on route. You know we really aren’t doing this justice in print…the picture page shows the joy on our team members faces. As we are sharing our story with you now, most of our team is packing preparing for a VERY early morning flight back to Kelowna. Before they leave, we are planning a celebratory dinner at Kaffi Reykjavik home of the legendary Ice Bar. http://www.randburg.com/is/kaffi_reykjavik/
