Team Diabetes Day One
Provided courtesy 101-5 Silk FM Andy & Tj’s Team Diabetes Travelogue Day 1 Andy: We’ve finally made it and feel so alive with a short run along Reykjavik Harbour for the Friendship Run. We needed it after yesterdays’ long journey over the Atlantic. The flight from San Francisco lasted a little over 8 hours and gave us the opportunity to bond with our teammates from across the country. Tj: Our Kelowna squad of 31 joins another 80 Team Diabetes members from around BC, plus 90 from other parts of Canada. Including family, friends and Canadian Diabetes Association leaders, our contingent numbers 290. The folks here in Reykjavik don’t know what’s hit them!!! Andy: If they haven’t figured it out yet, they will Saturday night for the country’s largest Cultural Festival. The perfect way to celebrate our teams’ success after the Marathon! Our tired but triumphant teammates will have a chance to drink in the experience at the world famous Ice Bar. Apparently the ‘only’ place you’ll actually find ice in Reykjavik at this time of year. And… the one place you will find Tj after 8 pm local time! Tj: Like you won’t be there right alongside me!! Speaking of world famous tourist attractions?? We’ve just arrived back at our hotel – the Radisson 1919 – from the one-of-kind Blue Lagoon. Imagine the worlds’ largest natural hot tub with opaque blue green waters with an average temp of 37 degrees! Unbelievably relaxing and reinvigorating - I feel like a new woman! Andy: The Blue Lagoon was truly one of the most amazing experiences!!! Talk about a cure for stress!!! We’ve got our “pre-race dinner” in a few hours then a good night’s sleep before the day we’ve all been waiting and training for!!! Andy & Tj: Wish us luck and thank you for supporting the Canadian Diabetes Association! We’ll let you know how the big day goes tomorrow!!
